TFL Colour Trends Spring-Summer 2027

Welcome to TFL’s new Colour Trend Catalogue for the season Spring-Summer 2027. In this brochure we present the colour trends for leather garment, footwear, accessories and upholstery.

Wearing

All aboard the boat and time to pull out our old Timberlands and Sebago’s or buy new ones to breath fresh air into the stifled market. Clean colors such as blue in all its shades, solar red with lobster effects and pure white on waterproof leathers will be all the rage next season.

Stain resistant treatments are important for full grain and nubuck leathers used for any application. Lightfast drum dyes will be increasingly important for in trend full grain and suede leathers. Our high-performance retanning products and processes ensure that leather will withstand even the harshest of footwear manufacturing processes.

Color, color and color in sheep and goat suede. In the retanning and dyeing phase great use is made of acrylic polymers to give a soft volume to the leather and enhance the brightness of the tones. Choosing the right final tops are essential to give softness and silkiness.

Airy, shiny, opaque faded Nappa with waxy coatings, micro-crystalline finishes on pre-milled leathers and Nappa on bull raw material with a papery look. Also, Nappa on bovine leathers through the use of different filler applications and a wonderful blend of hydrophobic polymers and lecithin’s in various concentrations both for soft sneakers and wide leg pants. In the leather goods sector, Nappa leathers follow the same silky aspect.

The world of imitation reptile skins is coming back in a great way, not only for some luxury articles but also for mainstream and printed for the “ready-to-wear” world. It is always shiny and has a soft and glove feel. Starting from the wet end, materials are no longer based on just chrome or vegetable but increasingly X-Tan® especially for all the shades from white and brilliant deep blue sky “cerulean” through to the more showy or garish tones.

The world of vegetable tanning will have an increasingly natural look thanks to innovative solutions in the beamhouse process, in which skins are treated with the unique PELTEC X-Zymes® giving the cleanest possible grain. Even calfskin shoulders will be properly “opened up” with this treatment allowing perfect penetration and distribution of subsequently added chemicals like lanolin, rapeseed oil and dyes.

Living

The living collection for next spring/summer is full of natural textures, giving everything a bright and fresh look. This applies especially for the increasingly upbeat upholstered furniture market that we can break down into four different types of seating.

Single armchair and ottoman: extensive use of chrome tanned South American cowhide with a floater feel through to the use of acrylic polymers and protein fillers in the wet end to intensify the Nappa look. There are multiple finishing solutions available, including:

  • faded finishes with a slight waxy, whitish sheen.
  • two-tone semi-gloss jeans finishes with linear designs and worn feels
  • creased and waxy finishes, to age pre-printed and milled leathers.

Two-seater sofas and chaise longues: the focus is on chrome and vegetable tanned calfskin retanned with TANIGAN® T-A unique vegetable-based tannin and bio-polymers and resins from renewable sources. Preference is given to the use of embossing plates with grains such as: micro deer print, woven fabrics and subtle diagonal effects.
Three-seater sofa: making extensive use of nubuck for the luxury range, further enhanced by double dyeing and the combination of very lightweight resins and synthetic retanning agents that give the finished product a light, low density feel. The ready-to-use range makes extensive use of chrome tanned cowhide or a combination with TANNESCO® CPR and SELLATAN® TMC for very light colors and bleach effects.
Island sofas: full grain floater and buffalo leathers printed on hides tanned with TANNESCO® FC and chromium salts in combination with selected LEVOTAN® polymers and TANIGAN® MBO in the retanning exalt lightness and fullness simultaneously.
Given the popularity of outdoor furniture, the tanning world turns to TFL for support with the creation of high-performance leathers with good resistance to the elements and physical performance.

To continue and expand the production of bio-degradable leathers, X-Tan® tanning agent is, and will, be fundamental for all tanneries that want to implement their collections with this increasingly popular trend.
