Wet salted hides and skins / brined hides - Hint 3

Beamhouse processes must be adapted to the structure of the individual type of hide or skin. TFL's strategies include ensuring through soaking, and control of swelling during liming as well as preventing bacterial attack.

The difference in structure between cow and ox hides and between certain breed types must always be taken into account when considering the end leather type requirements. This can be made worse when cows have been in salt for very long periods of time. The generally less tight structure normally expected from cows may be optimised by liming with swell regulating liming auxiliaries such as ERHAVIT after a mild soaking with PELLVIT KAB-P enzyme soaking agents.
