Position purpose:

The chemist will be part of a global team dealing with both the development of new products and the maintenance and improvement of the existing product range in the field of softening agents for leather ("fatliquors"). You will primarily focus on synthesis and formulation work, operate cross-functionally and be part of an innovative, global environment with flat management structures. Depending on further developments, you will be responsible for leading a junior employee. You will be based at TFL’s site in Muttenz, Switzerland that is characterized by modern facilities, laboratories and a pilot tannery. The function will be part of the "Global Research & Development" team.

Primary Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Develop new softening agents based on input from the sales team
  • Continuously contribute to the improvement of TFL’s existing product portfolio
  • Evaluate and improve product stability
  • Support production and promotion of the TFL range of “fatliquors”
  • Support regulatory activities (REACH etc.)
  • Work with chemists and experienced researchers around the world to ensure the highest scientific quality
  • Keep up-to-date with the chemical literature, apply knowledge into new products and ensure synthetic routes
  • Communicate results in internal reports, presentations and publications
  • Ensure that all activities are in line with Environment, Health and Safety principles, Ethics & Compliance guidelines
  • Collaborate across departments and countries

Education/Qualifications:

  • Academic training in chemistry, especially synthetic organic chemistry and polymer chemistry
  • Ph.D. in chemistry or similar degree
  • Practical experience in formulation work, emulsions and rheology is of advantage
  • 1-2 years of working experience in an industrial R&D environment
  • Your English is on a business level
  • You are interculturally competent
  • You are able to work independently but thrive when working in a diverse team
  • You have strong analytical thinking skills and an open mindset
  • You enjoy finding creative solutions to chemical problems
  • You find sharing your knowledge and guiding others rewarding
