Free Formaldehyde - Statement of Compliance
Formaldehyde is widely used in the manufacture of chemicals. If a product contains any significant amount of free-formaldehyde, this will be listed in Section 2 of the material safety data sheet. In Europe there are currently no legal limits for restricting formaldehyde in leather. The only requirement is when above 1500 ppm the consumer product must be labelled. Requests involving leather technical specifications that restrict formaldehyde are part of commercial agreement.

Restricted phthalates - Statement of Compliance
The European Parliament voted in July 2005 to ban the use of some phthalates plasticisers in all children´s toys and childcare items. Leather articles made with TFL chemicals comply with this EU regulation for toys, according to our present state of knowledge.

EU Directive restricting the use of nonylphenol ethoxylate and nonylphenol products
The EU passed in July 2003 the directive 2003/53/EC, which will restrict the marketing and use in Europe of products and product formulations that contain more than 0.1% of NPE or NP. This applies to many industries including the textile and leather industries, except in the case of closed application systems where no release into waste waters occurs. From January 2005 this Directive comes into force.

Statement of Compliance regarding Metal
On behalf of TFL Ledertechnik GmbH we can confirm that leather dyestuffs and chemicals sold from the central warehouse in Europe are periodically tested in order not to exceed metal contents as recommended by ETAD (Ecological and Toxicological Association of Dyes and Organic Pigments Manufacturers). This limits do not apply to dyes or chemicals containing a listed metal as an inherent part of the molecular structure or composition e.g. metal-complex dyes or chrome tanning syntans.

Statement of Compliance regarding VOC
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) are defined in differing ways depending on their use pattern. In reference to EU Commission Directive 2001/58/EC, VOC presenting a health or environmental hazard within the Directive 67/548/ECC have been disclosed in section 2 of the Material Safety Data Sheet. This includes Ozone depleting chemicals subject to EG regulation 2037/2000 to fulfil the requirements of the Montreal protocol (1987) and its amendments.

Statement of Compliance regarding the German Consumer Goods Act
On behalf of TFL Ledertechnik GmbH we can confirm that leather treated correctly with dyes and chemicals supplied and sold from our central warehouses in Europe will comply with the German Consumer Goods Act (Bedarfsgegenständeverordnung) when tested according to the following European standard test methods: azo-amines - CEN ISO/TS 17234, PCP - CEN/TS 14494 and chromium (VI) - CEN/TS 14495.

Statement of Compliance regarding Azo Dyes
On behalf of TFL Ledertechnik GmbH we can confirm that leather which is correctly dyed with azo dyes of the SELLA® (FAST, FLUID, CAR, COOL, STAR, WOOL) SELLASET® and SELLAFLOR® ranges, will comply with the EU Directives 2004/21/EC, 2003/3/EC and 2002/61/EC, as well as the German Consumer Goods Act (Bedarfsgegenständverordnung). The dyed leather will pass an analytical test according to the official CEN ISO/TS 17234 test method for leather.
