Crust leathers have an anionic charge; consequently a cationic finishing has an excellent affinity with the leather and affords the following advantages:
- excellent adhesion of finishing films;
- excellent coverage and greater uniformity
- softer leathers.
When can the cationic upgrading system can be used?
- When you have adhesion problems: use RODA pur K 34, an aliphatic polyurethane in water dispersion that forms an ultra-elastic, mildly sticky film.
- When you have grain off: use RODA feel K 980, which both enhances the firmness of the grain off and the result is a particularly mellow touch.
- When you have low-quality skins and hides, which require extensive coverage with pigments in order to mask defects, use RODA fill K 622, which forms a soft, matt film with a pleasant handle. RODA fill K 622 has good filling and matting properties in cationic covering blends. It gives the leather a good handle and considerably enhances the coverage properties of the coat. This product tends to fade if used excessively, therefore use no more than 20 - 25% of the resin weight.
- For the final touch, use RODA feel KTA 950 and RODA feel KTA 944. RODA feel KTA 950 is a silicone in aqueous emulsion, which should be added to nitro-emulsion or water top in amounts that range from 3%, in accordance with the final handle required. It imparts a silky, slippery handle and enhances adhesive-tape resistance, as well as dry and wet rubfastness. RODA feel KTA 944 is a touch modifier in aqueous phase and gives the finish a slippery, silky handle that is highly sought after in garment leathers where a natural touch is required.
