TFL hair-save process with amine-free products
Technical Info TFL hair-save process with amine-free products
In the tannery, it is the liming process that places the greatest load on the environment. Sulphide, amines, precipitable substances and high chemical and biological oxygen demand all play a significant role in waste water pollution.
TFL has taken up the challenge of reducing the tannery effluent load by develop-ing a liming process which allows hair to be recovered largely intact.
The product best suited for application in the hair-save process is amine-free ERHAVIT® AF the first of a new generation of liming auxiliaries. ERHAVIT® AF is completely biodegradable and brings with it a number of significant advantages:

  • reduction of effluent load (see figures 1+2)
  • increased yield by area and improved leather quality
  • improved smoothness and cleaner grain particularly in combination with an enzymatic soaking
  • optimum swell-regulating properties which produce very flat fat wrinkles
  • accelerated diffusion of liming chemicals and enhanced lime solubilityimproved scud-loosening

Companion products to optimise the process

ARACIT® KL

preserving agent

bactericide for soaking

BORRON® A

wetting and dispersing agent

high fat-emulsifying capacity
good wetting effect

BORRON® LB

calcium complexing agent

avoids lime blast

ERHA® GM 3034

slipping agent

prevents mechanical abrasion and hence avoids grain damage such as scuff marks and rubbed grain

PELLVIT® S

enzymatic soaking agent

accelerates soaking and provokes less swelling in the lime
removes most of the non-structured skin protein
improves the action and penetration of the selected lime chemicals
